Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (256g) whole milk small curd cottage cheese (4% milkfat)
- ½ tsp garlic powder (optional, for extra flavor)
- ½ tsp onion powder (optional, for extra flavor)
- ¼ tsp smoked paprika (optional, for color and taste)
- Pinch of black pepper or red pepper flakes (optional, for a spicy kick)
Instructions
Preparation:
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the Cottage Cheese: Using a spoon, stir the cottage cheese to evenly distribute the curds and remove excess moisture.
- Flavoring (Optional): If you’re using seasonings, mix them into the cottage cheese before scooping.
Cooking Steps:
Scoop and Spread:
- Use a tablespoon or small cookie scoop to drop portions of cottage cheese onto the parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Space them about 2 inches apart to prevent them from merging.
- Flatten each portion with the back of a spoon, spreading it to about ⅛ inch thick.
Bake Until Golden & Crispy:
- Place the baking sheet in the middle rack of the oven.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the chips turn a deep golden brown with slightly dark edges.
- Check around 30 minutes to prevent burning.
Cool and Crisp Up:
- Remove from the oven and let the chips cool completely on the baking sheet.
- They will continue to crisp up as they cool.
Enjoy!
- Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container for later.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, use whole milk cottage cheese with at least 14g protein per ½ cup (higher protein means less moisture).
- Avoid low-fat cottage cheese, as it contains more water and may result in softer chips.
- If the chips turn chewy instead of crispy, bake for an extra 5-10 minutes at 325°F (163°C).
- Best enjoyed fresh, but if they soften over time, reheat in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for 5 minutes.
