For the Donuts:
- 1 cup 125g all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup 25g unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup 100g granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup 120ml buttermilk
- ¼ cup 60ml vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ cup 45g mini chocolate chips (optional, for extra chocolatey goodness)
For the Chocolate Glaze:
- ½ cup 80g powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2-3 tablespoons milk adjust for consistency
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon melted butter for a glossy finish
Preparation:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a donut pan with non-stick spray or butter.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
Making the Batter:
In another bowl, whisk the egg, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Fold in the mini chocolate chips if using.
Baking the Donuts:
Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about ¾ full.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Making the Glaze:
In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, cocoa powder, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth. Add more milk if needed for a thinner consistency.
Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze, allowing excess to drip off. Place them back on the wire rack for the glaze to set.
- For an extra glossy glaze, warm the glaze slightly before dipping the donuts.
- If you prefer a thicker glaze, use less milk.
- These donuts taste best fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
